|A fifth homeless person has been murdered in Suriname.
The man's nickname was 'Pitt Bull' and his head was smashed with a brick and he sustained stab wounds and cuts.
The body was discovered at an outdoors basketball court in Zorg en Hoop, a southern neighbourhood of the capital Paramaribo.
Following the deaths of four homeless men this year, two news agencies reported that the police had formed a special unit to investigate the murders.
"At this point in time I won't disclose the activities of this special investigating team, because the people who are targeting the vagrants are also listening," the country's Justice Minister, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, said.
An Associated Press report stated that the four other homeless people had also been killed in Paramaribo and included a man who had been hacked to death by an axe-wielding assailant last week.
Two were shot in February, and another was doused with gasoline and set on fire in May, AP said.
The motives of the attacks were unclear but police had not ruled out the possibility of a serial killer.
"Serial killers are known to have a recognisable method of operation, which is not the case in these killings," said Deputy Police Chief Humphrey Tjin Liep Sjie.
A homeless man identified only as Majakko said in the AP report said that he knew of the attacks, but he had nowhere to go and protect himself.
"I don't know if I should be scared because I don't believe that people would do things like this," he said. He sleeps on the sidewalks in front of the Salvation Army in Paramaribo.
