CONFESSIONS OF THE COSTA KILLER

Oct 14 2003

He tells of stalking girls 'like a hunter'

By Stephen Moyes

COSTA double killer Tony King admitted "I am disgusting" in a shocking confession to police released yesterday.

The 38-year-old pervert, who could not engage in normal sex, told how he got his kicks from pursuing women victims like a "hunter" and attacking them like a "conqueror".

He gave graphic details how he beat one girl to death after knocking her over in his car. And he admitted he had been a predator for years.

King said: "When I approach women I feel like a hunter, a conqueror who has taken a prisoner or target.

"I have no interest in sex with my partner and cannot achieve orgasm. Stalking women, touching them and then remembering how I approached my victims and intimidated them - that motivates me more.

"I touch girls when they are dead. I am mentally ill. When I see the girls' families, I feel terrible. I apologise to all women. I am disgusting.

ARRESTED: King is behind bars

"I have difficulties having sex and this is why I stalk women. I bother them and touch them. I've suffered this problem for years."

King, originally from North London, is in jail awaiting trial for killing Sonia Carabantes, 17, and Rocio Wanninkhof, 19. He has also allegedly confessed to three rapes.

His 1,500-word taped confession to Malaga police was released yesterday after a judge partially lifted a gag.

King claimed he ran over Sonia in his Mazda while drunk as she walked home from a summer fair near his home north of Malaga.

He said: "I got in my car after leaving the fair and reversed at top speed like I always do. I realised I'd hit something so got out and saw Sonia lying on the ground bleeding.

"I felt terrified because I didn't have insurance to drive. I lost control and hit the car and possibly Sonia.

"I didn't know what to do. Her body was limp and she was groaning.

"I picked her up and rested her against a parked car. Then I put her in the boot. I was very drunk.

"Sonia couldn't stand up but she was groaning and still alive."

King drove the appallingly injured teenager towards waste ground.

He added: "I began to slap her to try to bring her round. She showed no sign of life. I got out of the car, shouting 'What on earth am I doing here?'

"I returned to the back seat and started hitting her harder, violently. That's why there was so much blood."

King buried Sonia's body under rocks on the bottom of a dry river bed. But first he stripped and touched her.

He admitted: "I know I'm ill because I was touching her breasts and the rest of her body. I believe she was dead by now."

King threw Sonia's bloodied clothes in rubbish bins on the way home.

His girlfriend Mariluz Gallego, a 40-year-old mum of three, quizzed him about blood on his hands and stains on his clothes. But he claimed he had been in an accident.

He later took his car to a carwash, where he told workers a bottle of ink leaked in the boot.

Woman claims she was victim of 'Costa killer'

A woman has told the Metropolitan police that she was assaulted as a teenager by Tony King, the serial sex attacker accused of murdering two young Spanish women.

Scotland Yard has set up a taskforce and hotline to try to identify any other alleged victims of Mr King, recently confirmed to be Tony Bromwich, the "Holloway strangler" who was convicted of a string of attacks on women in north London in 1986.

It also emerged that the Spanish police knew of his background as long ago as 1998, and had been warned that he was a danger to women.

Mr King, 38, a barman, is in jail in Alhaurin de la Torre in southern Spain. He is reported to have confessed to murdering Rocio Wanninkhof, 19, in 1999 and Sonia Carabantes, 17, in August after DNA samples linked him to the crimes. The Spanish police say he has also confessed to raping at least three other women.

Scotland Yard said a 32-year-old woman had come forward to say she was attacked by Mr King in the 1980s when she was in her early teens.

Four other police forces have given the Met information about possible offences. Mr King's DNA will be placed on a UK database allowing it to be compared with DNA in any outstanding murder and rape cases.

Yesterday Interpol confirmed that the Spanish police had been warned about Mr King. They were given his address in Spain and his fingerprints and were told that he posed a serious threat to women after Surrey police, investigating an alleged rape in 1997, tried to trace him and found he had gone to Spain.

Mr King was released from prison in 1991 after serving half of his 10-year sentence.
