|A suspected serial killer and rapist who has been on the loose after skipping bail more than a year ago has been re-arrested in Mpumalanga.
Samson Khoza, 35, was released on bail for rape and murder in 2004 and crossed the border into Swaziland.
He was arrested on Saturday when police were tipped off that he was seen at Mangweni village outside Malelane in Mpumalanga.
Constable Wandi Nyambi of Tonga police said Khoza was caught on his way to a butchery and tried to flee into mealie fields, but was shot in the shoulder and arrested.
Khoza is accused of raping and killing a 22-year-old woman in Naas township on December 26 2004. He was arrested and released on R4 000 bail.
He skipped bail and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
He's also accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering a 20-year-old woman in Tonga. Her body was found four days later in the bush.
"He is also a suspect in a number of other rape and murder cases around Nkomazi," said Nyambi.
The victims were young women between 18 and 22.
Khoza is under police guard in hospital while being treated for his gunshot wound.
He will appear in court as soon as he's well enough.
