20050810: Pozhiyoor murder accused turns out to be a serial killer THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Serial Killer News
The investigation into the recent rape and murder of a two-year-old girl at Pozhiyoor near Thiruvananthapuram has given the police a breakthrough in a murder case of similar nature committed two years ago at Puthukurichi near Thiruvananthapuram. Sebastian, 22, of Poonthura, who is the accused in the Pozhiyoor case, has confessed that he had committed the murder of Jincy, a six-year-old girl of Puthukuruchi, after attempting to molest her. Jincy was reported missing from her house on the mid-night of June 23, 2003. Her body was found naked in the sea off Vizhinjam after a few days. The Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, was suspicious of the role of Jincy’s father Styllus. Styllus had, in the meantime, obtained an anticipatory bail. Thiruvananthapuram-range DIG, Arun Kumar Sinha told reporters on Tuesday that Sebastian, during interrogation in connection with the rape and murder of Saranya at Pozhiyoor on August 2, confessed that he had murdered Jincy. According to Sebastian, he took Jincy out of her house at Puthukuruchi with the intention of sexually exploiting her. Jincy was strangulated to death after she cried out for help. Subsequently, Sebastian threw her body into the sea. Sebastian has also been accused of the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl at Poonthura on December 25, 2001. He was later acquitted by the court in the case. The government had filed an appeal petition against the court verdict. “Sebastian is now involved in three cases of murder and sexual harassment, a case of rape attempt at Kollamkode and an eve-teasing incident at Harippad besides several petty thefts,” the DIG said. He said that Sebastian did not seem to be mentally-ill, but he was a drug addict. He had been deserted by his family, the DIG said. “The involvement of Sebastian in more cases cannot be ruled out as he has travelled to many parts of the state and Tamil Nadu,” he said. The modus operandi of Sebastian was to develop acquaintance with residents of coastal areas by posing himself as a fisherman. He would search for young girls at houses in the region during the night. Sebastian had also told the police that he had illicit relationships with several women in the coastal areas. He was also a frequent visitor to cinema theatres, police said.
